Skittles at the Tiger Inn, Bridport
We had a fantastic turn-out of 28 people for the Club’s first social event of the year – a skittles evening at the Tiger Inn, Bridport - organized by our Social Secretary Lesley Begley on Saturday 11th February. On one of the coldest nights of the year so far, it was great to see such positive support from members and their partners.
The warm and welcoming atmosphere of the Tiger Inn soon compensated for the freezing temperatures outside, and everyone tucked heartily into the chips and sandwiches provided, while waiting for their turn to play. There was a raffle half-way through the evening and the knock-out contest at the end was won by Brian Johnson.
Many thanks to Lesley for providing such an entertaining event, which will be followed by other social functions for Club members and their friends later in the year.
Wey Valley Tennis Centre Outing
Everyone enjoyed some great indoor tennis on Saturday December 17th at the Wey Valley Tennis Centre, which generously offered our Club members free use of 2 courts for 4 hours. We played arranged doubles in two sessions from 2-4pm and 4-6pm, so there was no sitting out.
The lighting was excellent and the bounce was very even, on a hard court surface that had been newly painted.
We especially appreciated the opportunity to play indoors when we could hear raindrops on the roof outside!
It looks like we’ll be coming back soon to the Wey Valley Centre, as new member Martin Walker has kindly offered to run several teams in the forthcoming Dorset LTA Adult League, which will take place in the Centre from late January to Easter.
New Club Signs
Our Club now proudly displays 2 exterior signs, printed by Mystic Signs of Bridport, on our perimeter fencing. As we get a lot of passers-by in Plottingham Playing Fields, this is a valuable way of advertising what we have on offer to anyone interested in hiring a court on a casual basis, as well as attracting new members to the Club.
